No other athletes visible

I enjoyed one of the two new routes this morning - Island Circuit - perfect length for an hour or so ride. However, has something been broken in the display of other riders/runners? They appear on the map, and I thought I saw my avatar move around invisible objects now and then, but no other riders/runners actually appeared anywhere on the route in the display app. Same yesterday after this week's update.
